Britain should play positive role in resolving Kashmir Issue: President AJK

Islamabad: President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, has stated that Britain should play its role in resolving the Kashmir issue. He emphasized that peace in South Asia is intricately linked to the resolution of the Kashmir problem, which emerged when Britain withdrew from the Indian subcontinent after its two-hundred-year rule. For the past 76 years, the Kashmir issue has been demanding a solution, and the people of Kashmir have been striving for their right to self-determination. Therefore, the international community, particularly Britain, should fulfill its role in ensuring the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people in accordance with the United Nations resolutions.

 

He expressed these views during a detailed meeting today at the Kashmir House in Islamabad with a delegation from the British High Commission, led by Deputy High Commissioner Ms. Zoe Wail. The British delegation included, besides Ms. Zoe Wail, Political Officer Ross McPartland and Political Advisor Ms. Adeela Khan.

During this meeting, President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, briefed the British delegation on the current situation in the occupied Kashmir and the Kashmir issue. He also highlighted that Britain, as a member of the Commonwealth and having significant ties with both Pakistan and India, could be a helpful mediator in finding a solution to the Kashmir problem. Therefore, he urged Britain to play its role in resolving the Kashmir issue.
