Chaotic life of cities, urbanization affecting culture: Shaukat Yousafzai

Peshawar: A delegation of UNESCO Pakistan, THAAP and NIDA Pakistan led by UNESCO Pakistan Country Director Patricia McPhillips called on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Labour and Culture Shaukat Yousafzai here at Peshawar on Tuesday. The delegation discussed issues of mutual interest, nways and means to highlight the modern and ancient cultural aspects of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and raising the level of awareness were discussed. The delegation gave a detailed briefing to the Provincial Minister on various projects of UNESCO Pakistan, THAAP and NIDA Pakistan. The ndelegation included Dr. Sajida Wadal, Muhammad Arif, Tariq Ahmad Khan nand Dr. Zia-ur-Rehman. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Director Culture Shama Naimat and Director Tourism Muhammad Shoaib were also present on the occasion. The Provincial Minister said that the tradition of Study Tours for children would be revived to create awareness. It is important to make children aware of the modern and ancient aspects of the culture and to involve them in daily activities said the Minister. “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was an excellent center of cultural fusion. Our culture is our identity in the world. Every city and village in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has its own historical significance in one way or another. Historic sites and thousands of years old traditions and historic buildings are still of interest to domestic and foreign tourists”, said, Shaukat Yousafzai.
The Provincial Minister further said that they have come out of the environment of terrorism and extremism but now the chaotic life of cities and urbanization is affecting our culture. In such cases, special work has to be done on children to pass on the historical and cultural knowledge to the new generation. Shaukat Yousafzai said that historical and cultural aspects would be brought to the world through tourism and steps were being taken for this regard.
The Provincial Minister thanked the delegation representing UNESCO Pakistan THAAP and NIDA Pakistan for coming to Peshawar. The delegation assured the Provincial Minister to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government for cooperation in the steps being taken to promote cultural revival.
