A tragic attack on a Kabul hotel frequented by Chinese businessmen horrified China on Tuesday, the country claimed, adding that five of its citizens were injured.
“China is appalled by this heinous terrorist crime. We vehemently reject terrorism in all its forms. According to Wang Wenbin, a spokesman for the foreign ministry, “We express our sorrow for the Afghan military police who passed away and our sympathies for the injured.
Gunmen stormed a hotel in the Afghan capital on Monday, resulting in at least three fatalities. Witnesses heard numerous explosions as well as numerous gunshots.
The extremist Islamic State (IS) organisation has taken ownership.
Five Chinese individuals were hurt in the terrorist attack, according to what we know, and several Afghan police and military personnel were also murdered, Wang said.
The Chinese embassy in Afghanistan, he continued, had “made serious representations to the interim Afghan government, asking the Afghan side to spare no effort to rescue the injured, thoroughly investigate the incident, bring the terrorists to justice, and take further measures to protect the safety of Chinese citizens in Afghanistan.”
Since taking over control in August of last year, the Taliban assert that security has improved; yet, there have been numerous bombings and other attacks, many of which have been blamed on the regional branch of the extremist IS.
In order to assist with rescue and medical efforts, embassy personnel had travelled to the attack site on Monday, according to Wang.
The Afghan security forces “actively participated in handling and rescuing Chinese individuals,” Wang continued, and Beijing welcomed this.
He did, however, urge Chinese nationals that they should leave Afghanistan as quickly as possible, per advice from the foreign ministry.
