Disoriented and Disillusioned Adhoc system in AJK

By Ahsan Iqbal

Adhocism in government jobs/appointments has rendered the AJK Public Service Commission (AJKPSC) defunct, according to recent reports. The practice of appointing individuals on an adhoc basis, solely based on nepotism and political influence by AJK government ministers, has completely thrown merit out the window.

As a result, the youth of AJK is increasingly becoming disoriented and disillusioned with the current state of affairs. The AJKPSC, which is supposed to be the primary institution responsible for ensuring merit-based appointments, is being completely undermined.

Departments are not sending requisitions to the AJKPSC, and instead, they are hiding positions to appoint their kin on an adhoc basis. These adhoc appointees then take stay orders from courts, stopping the AJKPSC from conducting exams and further adding to the growing frustration among the youth.

Moreover, the PTI-led government is now regularizing these adhoc appointees in gross violation of basic human rights and court decisions. This move is not only unfair but also sets a dangerous precedent for future appointments in AJK.

The consequences of this adhocism are far-reaching, and the youth of AJK is the most affected. With limited opportunities available, the practice of nepotism and political influence only serves to deepen the existing inequalities and restrict upward mobility.

The AJKPSC must be empowered to conduct its duties impartially, and the government must take urgent steps to curb the practice of adhocism. Merit-based appointments should be the norm, and appointments based on nepotism and political influence should be strongly condemned.

In conclusion, the practice of adhocism in government jobs/appointments in AJK is a serious issue that needs to be addressed urgently. The future of the youth of AJK is at stake, and the government must take immediate action to ensure that they have access to a level playing field.
