The bill namely “Supreme Court – Practice and Procedure Bill 2023” regarding curtailing the power of Chief Justice to take suo moto actions has become law, despite that the Supreme Court had ordered for not implementing it.
The PDM led government, bashed in the addiction of power, is in the disposition to fight with the judiciary, but the consequences of this brawl would be dreadful.
The bench of Supreme Court, which is hearing the case about holding of elections in Punjab gave some indications by the remarks of the judges that it would not go against SC’s previous decision on the case.
But on the other hand, the government is not willing for holding elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa before the general elections, despite the orders of the Supreme Court, the Federal Minister for Law Justice and Parliamentary Affairs has announced two days earlier that eventually the bill would become the law on 20th April.
It is also a fact that some of the senior leaders of PML(N), which is heading the government at present, are also continuously throwing debris on the judges of apex court which also emanated into the frame of contempt of court. Though the Supreme court so far kept its patience over these disrespectful statements but for how long the court would retain its tolerance.
If the government would put the supreme court orders in doldrums one after another, the tension between two important pillars of the state i.e. legislative and judiciary would increase that would widen the gap between the two sides.
As the matter of fact the government has bogged down into the quagmire to convince the IMF to get a loan , it opened the floodgates of inflation in the country, which shattered the economy of the common man, especially the salaried class. Now the government has not the audacity to face the people so it is running away from the elections at this peculiar period.
The PDM government is deliberately strolling on the way of combating against the judiciary which would have dire consequences and as a penalty, the Supreme Court may send the Prime Minister to home.
Now it looks that PDM wants a safe way for exit to save their face and for this the government has found an anomalous approach to annoy some of the constitutional institution so much and it may show the doors to the Prime Minister and in this way they would have been able to tell the public that the court had done unjust to them by ending their government before constitutional tenure.
The PDM government did nothing for the wellbeing of the common man during their tenure but they took such decisions that they lost the confidence of the majority of the people. When the PTI was in government the popularity of the PDM was going high but when the alliance came into power, it lost the public support.
Now there is much difference of opinion within the ruling coalition over some important issues such as worsening terms with judiciary and broad based political dialogues. It is either “power glue” or some personal interests that had bound the different political parties into one alliance, but when they would not be on treasury benches, PDM would split away into many pieces
