Hamid Lone writes to UN, calls for immediate intervention in IIOJK

Islamabad: Senior Hurriyat leader Abdul Hameed Lone, Vice Chairman of Friends of Kashmir International, has called for urgent intervention by the United Nations Security Council to ensure the peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with relevant UN resolutions. Lone emphasizes the need for the international community to dissuade India from pursuing its alleged nefarious designs, urging the UN to uphold its Charter and resolutions for the sake of peace, justice, and tranquillity in the region.

In a letter to Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Gutters, senior Hurriyat leader said that Jammu and Kashmir is on a verge of genocide and it is high time for Un to intervene and save hundred thousand lives which are under continuous threat from RSS backed Modi government

He further said that before 2019, the disputed territory had special status under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution being unilaterally revoked by New Delhi, resulting in its illegal annexation to India. The decision has been contested in the Indian Supreme Court, which, despite the disputed nature of Jammu and Kashmir, has upheld the government’s move.

The verdict has sparked controversy, with critics pointing to previous judgments that raised concerns about the court’s independence and fairness. The court’s history, including the affirmation of the death sentence for Kashmiri leader Afzal Guru with inconclusive evidence, has fuelled scepticism about the judiciary’s impartiality.

The contentious decision also comes on the heels of a landmark judgment allowing India’s Hindu majority to construct a temple in place of the historic Barbari Mosque, causing shockwaves among legal experts who question the objectivity of the country’s highest court.
