The selection process for the army chief and the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff committee (CJCSC) got under way, according to defence minister Khawaja Asif, on Monday.
“Today marks the beginning of the selection process for [officials] to fill the highest positions in the Pakistan Army. With God’s help, the nominations will be made as soon as possible in accordance with the Constitution “In a tweet, the minister made a statement.
Asif dismissed rumours of a standoff over the choice of the new army chief in a separate interview with the media in Islamabad following a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The PML-N was discussing its friends on the appointment to the coveted position, according to the defence minister, and there was no pressure on the government to pick the army chief.
In addition, the senior minister promised that the summary would be moved within a few of days and that the selection process for the army chief would be finished by November 25.
Asif continued, “We will consider the names after we receive the summary; there will likely be five or six senior-most officers.”
Moreover, the PM’s Office has not yet received the summary, he said.
