Killing of Abdul Razzaq Shar

A Supreme Court lawyer, Advocate Abdul Razzaq Shar, who was shot dead on Tuesday in Quetta has taken another turn when former Prime Minister of Pakistan and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran khan was formally named in connection with the killing of a senior lawyer.

The incident occurred at Almo Chowk when unidentified individuals opened fire, resulting in the unfortunate demise of Abdul Razzaq Shar. Lawyer was mercilessly killed and shot more than 10 times and died instantly.

The son of Shar, Siraj Ahmed, has now filed the complaint against the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, accusing the ex-premier of abetting murder, accusing Imran Khan of killing his father as his father had filed a case against Imran Khan of high treason.

Former Premier and PTI chief has termed the charges against him an absurd and “foolish case”.

The killing of a lawyer is a very unfortunate accident and the supreme court should take suo moto action against the killing and security forces should investigate the case thoroughly and arrest the killers.
Abdul Razzaq Shar was receiving threats and it was the duty of the government to protect their citizens, and the government failed to provide any protection to supreme court lawyers.

The case against Imran Khan over the killing of a supreme court lawyer in Quetta without any proof is aimed to divert the case from the actual point and the government is trying to score political gains on the killing of a senior lawyer. The murder ended up becoming a political slugfest between the ruling administration and Imran Khan-led PTI party

Quetta Bar Association and Pakistan Bar Association have strongly condemned the killing of a senior colleague, with SAPM Attauallh Tarar alleging that Imran “got the lawyer killed to protect himself from the treason case”.

On the other hand, the PTI rejected the “baseless and futile allegations” made by SAPM Tarar against the party chairman and demanded that a case be filed against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah for the shooting.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo has took notice of the murder and condemned the incident and expressed deep sorrow over the killing of Abdul Razzaq Advocate.

The Chief Minister also directed the Inspector General Police (IGP) to take all possible measures to arrest murders and to submit reports after completion of investigations.

The blame game by government and opposition can divert the case and the actual killers can flee from the grip of the law. The case needed to be followed properly and killers of senior lawyers should be brought to justice as soon as possible. The supreme court of Pakistan should form a special committee to probe the killing and any involved in this heinous crime should be arrested.

The politics played on the killings of lawyers is unfortunate and disastrous to rule of law, as the murder of a lawyer is the murder of law.
