Lawyers’ community warns govts against meritless appointments in Judiciary

MUZAFFARABAD/MIRPUR: Bar Associations of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Lawyers’ community warned the federal government and the government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir against the meritless appointment of the Chief Justice of AJK Supreme Court here on Friday. Joint session of Azad Kashmir Bar Council and All Bar Associations has been summoned on January 5. These decisions were taken during the session of the District Bar Association Mirpur chaired by President Bar, Mirza Qamar Zaman.
Decision taken during the session that meritless appointments in AJK judiciary will not be acceptable. The appointments of Chief Justices should be made according to the constitution. The norm to appoint junior judges at higher ranks by ignoring the senior judges should not be promoted. There will be a strong resistance against any appointment which would be made while neglecting the seniors.
Speaking to the media persons after the session, President District Bar Association Neelum, Amjid Hussain Lon Advocate said that Neelum Bar will not accept any meritless appointment on the designation of the Chief Justice. Neelum Bar will firmly stand against the current artificial judicial crisis and for maintaining the sanctity of constitution, he added
Former Vice Chairman Bar Council, Chaudhry Shaukat Aziz Advocate said that the incumbent government is responsible for the current judicial crisis in the state. Despite having the authority, the government did not send the summary for the appointments of judges to Kashmir Council. Strategically delaying the appointment of permanent Chief Justice is a big crime, he further said.
Vice Chairman Pakistan Bar Council, Abid Saqi; Chairman Executive Committee Pakistan Bar Council, Azam Nazir Tarar; and President Lahore High Court Bar Association, Chaudhry Tahir Nasrullah Waraich also expressed their concerns regarding the current Judicial crisis in AJK.
