Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid, one of Pakistan’s top military officers, has decided to retire early. Lt General Hamid’s retirement comes a day after family sources revealed that Lt General Azhar Abbas had also requested early retirement.
The two army officers were among the six army officers nominated by General Headquarters for the position of army chief.
While Imran Khan was Prime Minister, Lt Gen Hamid was the Director-General of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence. Gen Faiz Hameed was reportedly Imran Khan’s “favourite” candidate to be the next army chief.
