Mother’s day

By Sehrish Ijaz

Mother’s Day is celebrated in Pakistan, just like in many other countries around the world. It is a day dedicated to honoring and appreciating mothers and mother figures for their love, sacrifices, and contributions to their families and society.

In Pakistan Mother’s Day is typically celebrated on the second Sunday of May, following the international tradition. On this day, people express their gratitude and love for their mothers through various ways, such as giving gifts, cards, flowers, or preparing special meals. Many families also spend quality time together, organizing family gatherings or outings to make the day memorable for their mothers.

In addition to individual celebrations, schools and communities in Pakistan often hold events and programs to commemorate Mother’s Day. Students participate in art competitions, performances, or presentations dedicated to their mothers. These events provide an opportunity for children to showcase their affection and respect towards their mothers.

It’s worth mentioning that the way Mother’s Day is celebrated can vary from person to person and family to family, depending on their cultural background and personal preferences. Some people choose to celebrate Mother’s Day in a more private and intimate manner, while others may opt for larger public celebrations or charitable activities to honor mothers and support causes related to women and families.

Mother’s Day serves as a special occasion to acknowledge and celebrate the invaluable role of mothers and express gratitude for their unwavering love and care.
Mothers are the blessings to their families and for us every day is mother’s day.
Our decision to celebrate or not to celebrate Mother’s Day, or Father’s Day for that matter, depends upon what we feel individually about it and of course how our parents, who we are doing it for, feel about it. Things should be done because you want to do them and not because others are doing it. And celebrating an occasion which is a relatively new concept in Pakistan shouldn’t be done unless you really relate to what it stands for, and not because it will make you seem so in touch with the rest of the world.
A mother is the first teacher and the first friend of her children. She carries her child in her womb for nine months and nurtures her little one with all her heart and soul. She can decipher every gesture of her children since the time they are born. She loves her children unconditionally and guides them on the right path in life. She takes care of her children and ensures their safety in every way

Yes, there is a need to celebrate and honour what a mother does for us and express our gratitude for it. The selfless person whose life is dedicated to the care of her family, especially children, needs to feel cared for and her efforts acknowledged and appreciated. We do enjoy a close relationship with her, but mostly we care about the care we get from her and not about the care we can take of her.
I wish happy mother’s day to all the mothers across the world
