ISLAMABAD: On Friday, sources said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid’s request for an early retirement.
Lt Gen Hamid submitted his request to GHQ a couple of days ago, and GHQ transmitted it to the Prime Minister’s Office for approval via the defence ministry.
Throughout the PTI administration, Lt Gen Hamid held the positions of corps commander in Peshawar and DG ISI. Later, he received a posting as the corps commander for Bahawalpur.
Following the similar choice made by Lt. General Azhar Abbas, Chief of General Staff (CGS), Hamid made his pronouncement.
The six candidates recommended to fill General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s position as head of the army staff once he retires on November 29, 2022 included the two senior military figures. However, the PM chose General Asim Munir, who took over as head of the military that same day.
