ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit Geneva on Sunday.
On January 9, PM Shehbaz will co-host the International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Switzerland. The delegation would be made up of government ministers and SAPMs.
The conference will aid in mobilising outside aid to help Pakistan’s people and government recover from the recent disastrous floods more successfully.
At the meeting, Pakistan will propose the Resilient Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Framework (4RF) and ask for global assistance and long-term collaborations for its implementation.
The 4RF document presents a prioritised and sequenced plan that has been established at the federal and provincial levels. It also contains the institutional structures and finance mechanism for its open, transparent, and collaborative execution.
The official launch of the 4RF paper and partner support announcements will follow a high-level opening segment that will be co-chaired by the prime minister and UN Secretary General.
Additionally, a combined press stakeout will be held by the prime minister and UN secretary general.
The transition of Pakistan to a more dynamic and sustainable economic development model will also be discussed at the conference by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with Pakistan’s vision for rehabilitating the affected population and rebuilding the damaged infrastructure in a resilient manner with the assistance of development partners.
Pakistani federal ministers will go into greater detail about the 4RF report and also explain Pakistan’s long-term plan for constructing climate resilience and adaptation. Their delegates will express the opinions of the four provinces.
The conference will be attended by heads of state and government, ministers, and high-level officials from a number of nations, International Financial Institutions, foundations, and funds, as well as representatives from international development organisations, the private sector, civil society, and INGOs.
The meeting will assist Pakistan in creating a long-term cooperation with its allies and development partners based on the 4RF document and act as a sign of global solidarity with the Pakistani people as they begin the process of reconstructing their lives and means of subsistence.
