Pakistan has been facing political instability for a long time but it developed almost a year ago when a no confidence motion against then Prime Minister Imran Khan was adopted by the National Assembly, which resulted in the change of government.
After getting out of PTI’s rule, the coalition government led by Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) came into power and PML(N) Central President Shahbaz Sharif became the Prime Minister of the country.
But after removal from government, the former PM Imran Khan started a movement for early elections but the government refused to accept PTIs demand to hold polls at earliest.
The whole nation was divided into two factions: Pro-Imran Khan and anti-Imran. The rift between two big political powers of the country has created a political instability in the country, which is being expanded day by day ever since the change in the last regime in the country.
In the beginning the ex-Prime Minister and leader of PTI Imran Khan has built a narrative that regime change took place with some foreign assistance.
The political instability since last one year , has played havoc with the economy of the country as the economic crisis deepened in the country so much that the country has reached the brink of default.
Miserable condition of the economy amidst political instability , forced the government to continue the International Monetary Fund (IMF)lending programme for 6 billion dollars, which was started by the PTI’s Prime Minister Imran Khan.
But the IMF laid down extremely tough conditions , which the government had to accept to sign the deal with the donor agency , which resulted in a flood of price-hikes hit the country . The rate of inflation in terms of energy and food commodities has increased manifold due to depreciation of currency and increasing the taxes on fuel .
The price increases in the country have made the life of the common man miserable and people’s general opinion went against the government . Due to this reason the PDM led government is hesitating to announce the fresh elections on the demand of the largest opposition party, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.
The political instability became more excavated when under a political move, PTI dissolved two provincial assemblies in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa . It is the constitutional requirement to hold fresh elections within 90 days after dissolution of any assembly in the country.
After dissolving two provincial assemblies , a tug of war began between the ruling alliance PDM and opposition party PTI and the President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan , as head of state had to intervene the matter as he announced the date of elections in two province of Pakistan, after giving ample time to Election Commission of Pakistan to settle the issue at its own end.
But the government knocked on the door of the apex court against the announcement made by the President. The matter is on litigation and the nation is looking towards the court so that it may play its role to end the political instability in the country so that the economic condition of the people could get even better to some extent.
