MUZAFFARABAD: The process of reforms in AJK Police has begun, said the Inspector General Police Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sohail Habib Tajik here on Friday. He expressed this while giving an interview to Bureau Chief Daily Country News, Faiza Gillani in Muzaffarabad.

IGP said at the occasion that in the first phase of reforming the AJK police, safe city cameras have been installed at main roads of the city. Safe city camera projects have been completed in Muzaffarabad and Bagh. The ultimate purpose of AJK police is to control the incidents of crime and to provide facilities to the citizens. Service centers have been established in all the 10 districts. These centers will help in resolving the issues of the masses. Citizens will not have to go to different cities for getting character certificates. The service centers will help citizens in this regard. Citizens can submit their documents in any city of Pakistan where they are living. Their character certificates will be issued from here after clearance. So, they don’t need to visit their own city for getting the character certificates. Besides this, community policing system has also been introduced, he added.

While answering to a question, IGP said that he is well aware of continuously growing cases of harassment, murder, and rape in AJK. Where ever such incidents happened police took prompt action and arrested the culprits. Police department has introduced online complaint cell through which SPs and DSPs will listen the complaints of the citizens and will take action accordingly, he further said.

Addressing another question he said that political influence is being eradicating from police department. Appointments and promotions are being made on merit basis. Biometric system is also being introduced to ensure the attendance of police officials, he further said.
