Last day, I was lost in a thought and thought about what topic should be written today and a topic that our young generation is ignorant of and its importance is very high. Many topics came to mind and finally on a topic. Iktfa which was titled as “World Mother Language Day” The purpose of my writing in this article is to inform the young generation about the importance of mother language and secondly why we celebrate this day.
Currently, more than 6,700 languages are spoken on the planet. Compared to the past, these languages are gradually declining because the mother or national languages have started to be limited by the virus of a few languages. That is, English, Chinese, French, Urdu languages have swallowed many national languages of the world, and this series of language consumption continues. Like many living nations in the world, when the Bengali people felt that their language and subsequently their nationality was under threat, they sacrificed their blood on the streets of Dhaka on 21 February 1952 and founded the new state of Bangladesh. If seen, the state of Pakistan limited the many nations of Pakistan to only two nations in an unnatural manner. And it was widely believed that Pakistan was created with two nations separated by a distance of 3000 kilometers, speaking different languages and not even culturally the same. In such a situation, the emergence of ideological differences was inevitable, because only a few months after the establishment of Pakistan, Bangla was removed from postage stamps, coins, stamps and postcards. All prints were printed in Urdu and English even though the majority of the population were Bangla speakers. This was the first shock for them, this was the time when the seeds of hatred buried in the hearts of Bengalis began to sprout. He felt that Urdu would be imposed on a nation that spoke a completely different mother tongue. Because when Muhammad Ali Jinnah went to Dhaka in 1948. So during his speech at the famous race course ground there, he said that only Urdu will be the official language of Pakistan. His speech was immediately followed by a strong protest from the crowd, after which the dream of freedom from a long neo-colonial system and a life of freedom in a new country was shattered, because the Bengalis were afraid that if another language was imposed on them. Given, then most of them and their future generations will remain illiterate. And the Bengali language will also begin to disappear. Also in January 1948, influential politicians and social figures came together to form an organization called Rashtra Vasa Sangram Presad. made Initially they kept their activities secret. This group set the course for history. After the death of the founder of Pakistan, this discussion of languages continued till 1952. Whenever an important personality from Pakistan visited there, this problem was highlighted. On 26 January 1952, the Assembly of Pakistan gave final approval to declare Urdu as the official language, it ignited the flames in East Pakistan. Due to which the language movement turned into the freedom movement, immediately after Urdu became the official language, Khwaja Nazimuddin who had become the Governor General by then reiterated Jinnah’s position during a large rally in Dhaka. As a resident there, this narrative of Khwaja Nazimuddin spoke.
Changed the movement completely. Terrible demonstrations followed his speech. After Nazimuddin’s statement, the Bengalis declared that they had been betrayed. Rejecting this speech, he started a general strike and demonstrations in East Pakistan in present-day Bangladesh in February. In these demonstrations, students, politicians, journalists and other professionals played the main role, due to which these demonstrations spread. 21 In February, Section 144 was imposed in and around Dhaka University to prevent gatherings. But this was insufficient to stop the protest. Students of Dhaka University took to the streets in violation of Section 144. An unpopular decision led to the birth of Martyrs’ Day. The police opened fire, killing many of the protesters, mostly students. The fight for the mother tongue made it clear that many nations cannot be united. And for this reason, the state of Bangladesh came into being after 19 years. This is the reason that now February 21 is celebrated in Bangladesh as Martyrs’ Day. After that, UNESCO in 1999 on behalf of two Bangladeshi citizens to the United Nations. Following a letter written to then Secretary General Kofi Annan, February 21 was declared International Mother Language Day. In 2010, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution approving the celebration of Mother Language Day. went Now the World Mother Language Day is celebrated every year on February 21 at the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO member countries. The purpose of this day is to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. If we turn the pages of history, language is a gift that connects each subject with the next subject and one generation with another generation. That is, language is a valuable capital and an important legacy of all human races. Language is not a garment to be taken off and thrown away because language is deeply embedded in the human heart. And when the language is hurt, the effect is on the heart. In the same way, every word and sentence of the mother tongue contains the values, traditions, culture and experiences of the nation and an indescribable charm. Because of this, the material and cultural heritage. National language is considered to be the most effective tool for its survival and development. All the nations that exist in the world, they have protected their mother tongues by making sacrifices, and the nations that did not protect their languages have become a thing of the past. Because they moved away from their mother tongues. This is the reason why the first attempt of every occupier and aggressor in the world is to erase the language of the nation, so that the traditions, culture, history, and nationality of the nation are destroyed. be erased After which it will be easy to rule over them. At this time the world has changed and every state will have to change its policy. That now every national language has to be developed to promote love. If this does not happen, the major wars of this century will be fought for the survival of languages. An example of this is that the world has learned a lesson from the linguistic problem of the great Islamic Empire of Pakistan and Mother Language Day has started to be celebrated globally, but Even today we are deprived of the smell of linguistic colors and suffering from the problem of languages
If the problems are to be solved, then the diversity of the languages spoken in the state should be given importance and promoted in order to create national unity. All resources should be used to develop languages like Pashto, Balochi, Sindhi, Balochi, Punjabi, Saraiki. You have to bring a car. Because until speaking national languages, thinking in them and making them a source of education and research, national unity and consciousness will not be created. All this is possible by educating our children in mother tongue. By which their abilities will come out and they will start progressing like other nations of the world. In this regard, there are many nations in front of us in the world who have made more progress by mastering the sciences in their native or national languages.
