PESHAWAR: Secretary Health Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mahmood Islam Wazir, praised religious scholars for their important role in controlling diseases and emphasized the need for collaboration between the Health Department and religious institutions to keep the province safe from dengue.
During a meeting with diverse religious scholars in Peshawar, Secretary Health Mahmmod Aslam Wazir stressed the significance of joint efforts for cleanliness and dengue prevention. He asked the scholars to discuss preventive measures during different occasions and Friday sermons.
He encouraged religious scholars to use their influence to raise awareness amongst the people to prevention of stagnant water in and around homes, covering containers like pots, drums, and tanks to prevent mosquito breeding.
As the dengue season approaches, Secretary Health warned about the rapid spread of the disease and urged scholars to leverage their influence within their communities. He emphasized the importance of their words and encouraged them to raise awareness about potential dangers. He highlighted the collective responsibility in controlling the dengue virus, given the urgent situation.
Dr. Qasim Afridi, Coordinator of the Integrated Vector Control/Malaria Control Program, explained the symptoms of dengue fever, including pain in the body, joints, and eyes, as well as headaches, cold-like symptoms, skin rashes, and, in severe cases, bleeding from the mouth and nose.
The religious scholars expressed their commitment and pledged to share guidelines through their platforms and social media channels. Distinguished scholars from various sects, including Molana Maraj-ud-Din Sarkani, Molana Obaid, and Molana Zafar Zaman, attended the event.
Dr. Akram Allah Khan, Focal Person for Dengue in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, District Health Officer Peshawar, and representatives from the Integrated Vector Control/Malaria Control Program were also present at the event.
