At last the spouse of judge Asim Hafeez , Somia Asim was arrested, who had tortured her minor house maid Rizwana , after a court in the federal capital rejected her bail plea.
The social media brought the case into limelight. The worst violence against the innocent girl, Rizwana and the criminal backing of the judge for his wife is appalling.
According to media reports, the wounds on the girl’s head had worms, fractures in her bones were several months old, her eyes, kidneys, and liver were severely affected, and her condition is still critical.
The poverty trodden parents like Rizwana engage their minor children, especially daughters in labor as the house servants, due to their compulsion, as they do not find any other way out to deal with hunger.
The main question that arises in front of the poor parents, if their children are sent to schools, is how they will bear the expenses of their education.
One can understand the duress of the poor struggling parents who send their children to work by realizing their economic desperation.
But the minor children have to face slapping their faces until they’re red, burning their bodies, and striking blows that make their eyes turn blue beside physical violence and even sometimes sexual exploitation by underage domestic workers on a daily basis for just a meager salary.
If we look at the previous cases of underage domestic workers, we will find that incidents of violence are not isolated occurrences where the “mad madam’s” mind snapped and she lashed out.
If tomorrow the news comes out that the parents of an injured girl reached a settlement with the employer and withdrew all charges of violence, it would not be surprising. The entire issue begins with the fact that the affected party does not have the means to fight back due to financial constraints and madams are well aware of this fact. The lawyers claimed that the parent of the poor soul, Rizwana are being pressured by the judge Asim Hafeez.
It is the duty of the state to bring legislation to prevent such incidents in the future. When the government would feel its responsibility to provide protection to the poor, from the hands of rich but cruel masters , who think that they have bought their home servant for just a few thousand rupees per month.
If in previous cases the wives of influential persons would have been punished, Rizwana could has been saved from insane violence.
It is also a social onus of the people that the relatives, friends, and the neighbors should boycott the family that is involved in the torturing the domestic servants, without keeping their status in mind so that everyone may be careful and the realization regarding this important issue might be prevailed in the society.
The power of social media trends has its place, but as a society, we need to reflect on where we stand. Do we report such incidents that take place around us? Do we take our social responsibility seriously? Our small act of bravery could save a little girl’s life.
