The army is helping with relief efforts after more than 100 people have been killed in floods across Pakistan.

Quetta: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release on Thursday that two Army Aviation helicopters assisted in relief operations from Karachi to Othal and Lasbela areas of Balochistan.

According to the army’s media wing, these helicopters had tried to fly outside during the last 48 hours but could not due to bad weather. Helicopters will now transport the stranded people to safer places and carry essential relief supplies.

The commanding general officer in Gwadar visited Othal to oversee relief and relief activities and senior local commanders in Khuzdar are scheduled to visit the flood-affected areas today, the statement said.

ISPR said that ground rescue and relief teams in Othal and Jhal Magsi are busy evacuating people to safe places and providing food and water to local people.

He further said that doctors and paramedics are providing medical aid to the affected people and the coastal highway has been opened for all types of traffic.

“Efforts are on to repair the damaged communication infrastructure and restore utilities. The protective embankment at Turbat that was breached has been repaired,” the media wing said.

On Wednesday, flood relays continued in the province due to heavy rains and hundreds of people were shifted to safe places with the help of rescue teams, boats and helicopters.

According to Russian official media, floods caused havoc in the southwest region of Pakistan due to monsoon rains.

“104 people reportedly killed in floods.”

Additionally, ISPR said that army troops are assisting the civil administration in flood and mountain storm relief activities in Punjab’s Dera Ghazi Khan.

Medical camps have been set up by the army to provide medical aid to the flood-affected locals.

In Sindh, apart from water extraction efforts in Karachi, relief operations in Jamshoro and Gharo areas were occupied by the army.
