On 5th August 2019, India unleashed a harsh crackdown by revoking the article 370, with tens of thousands of troops in addition to the 600,000 troops already present there, imposing a sweeping curfew, arresting thousands and cutting virtually all communications.

On the other side, in the form of extrajudicial execution, injuries, torture, sexual violence, illegal detentions, disappearances, arson and vandalism of civilian properties, restriction on congregational religious activities, media gags and a ban on communication and internet services seem to have become a permanent part of state’s campaign against the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
