PM AJK calls on Country Director WHO

MUZAFFARABAD: The Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider Khan called on the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Director, Dr. Palitha Gunarathna Mahipala here on Thursday. Dr. Palitha pays tribute to the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir for taking timely steps including isolation of the new Prime Minister’s House and Officer’s Club. Expressing full confidence in the steps taken by Azad Kashmir to deal with the corona pandemic, he vowed that Azad Kashmir would soon get rid of the pandemic. Speaking at the occasion, the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir informed Dr. Palitha that, the lockdown was carried out first in Azad Kashmir following the instructions of WHO and during this time the Health Department and other government agencies worked diligently which is showing its effects. Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider Khan further said that medical facilities have been improved across Azad Kashmir, number of beds in hospitals has been increased and isolation hospitals have been set up in all districts. While explaining the lockdown strategy across the state, Prime Minister said that Azad Kashmir had the best lockdown as compared to Pakistan which has resulted in less number of cases. He said that we are working under a special strategy to deal with coronavirus. “In this regard, a committee has been set up in each village comprising of volunteers including scholars, teachers and lady health workers who would play a role in providing awareness to the people as well as implementing safety measures. With the help of these committees, 24,000 people from abroad were traced” he added. Lauding the efforts of AJK government, Dr. Palitha, Country Director, World Health Organization, said that due to timely measures taken by the Azad Kashmir government, the lowest number of cases were reported in Azad Kashmir across Pakistan. The decision of the Prime Minister to make the new Prime Minister’s House an isolation hospital was an excellent one which was well received all over the world and the decision was being appreciated. The Prime Minister thanked the World Health Organization for its support in providing PCR machines. Health Minister; Dr. Muhammad Najeeb Naqi, Health Secretary, Regional Program Manager EPI and others were also present on the occasion.
