Information Commissioners join hands to ensure transparency in public services delivery

Lahore: All the Information Commissioners vowed to work collaboratively to ensure transparency of public entities across the country by improving the implementation of Right to Information (RTI) in their respective areas. This development occurred on the first day of the two days conference of the National Forum of Information Commissioners (NFIC) arranged by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Commission (KPIC) in collaboration with non-governmental organizations CPDI and GIZ, here at a local hotel in Lahore. The Federal Information commissioner and all the chief information commissioners of Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa participated in the said conference.
Commissioners pledged to collaborate in overcoming the challenges being faced by the commissions in the true spirit for proper implementation of RTI Law in the country. They also agreed to make RTI Law friendlier to ensure citizens’ access to information in all matters of public interest without any fear. Women empowerment and their engagement in public sector by ensuring access to information were also discussed. Focusing on women inclusion in improving public services delivery Mrs. Farah Hamid Khan, Chief Information Commissioner, KPIC emphasised the establishment of Women Facilitation Centres (Khwateen Saholat Markaz) in all the Deputy Commissioner offices. She said that KPIC in collaboration with GIZ is already working on this in four targeted districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. She hoped for the best results in ensuring transparency throughout the KP and the country too.
