SHARP teaches human and refugees rights to lawyers in swabi

SWABI: The Society for Human Rights and Prisoners Aid (SHARP) on thursday organised a one-day training workshop for lawyers on the topic of “ International Protection, Human Rights under Constitution, Status of Refugees in Pakistan and refugee rights within prevailing laws and notifications” under IPLAAR (Integrated Protection and Legal Assistance for Afghan Refugees) project at Local wedding hall with the aim to build capacity of lawyers on the subject of Refugees rights and protection.

The workshop started with registration of participants.The Holy Quran was recited by Mr.Jehangir khan Advocate.

Mr. Muhammad Rafique, a field Manager SHARP presented the welcome note that marked the formal start of training. He presented about SHARP, its role, services, projects, mate and areas of oprations. He said that SHARP is a Non-Governmental Organization which is working in Pakistan, as a humanitarian group, for the uplift of human rights in the country with the mission to strive for a human rights friendly in Pakistan. He said SHARP got Registration No#VSWA/ICT/300 on 11th March 1999 Society for Human Rights and Prisoners Aid, he said we are working for the well being of vulnerable segments of the society through various means, be it advocacy, community services, capacity building, emergency response and etc.

“SHARP has had experience of working with various population groups like refugees, IDPs, women, juvenile delinquents, street children and prisoners in different thematic areas including Protection, Child Protection, Emergency Response, Advocacy, Education, Infrastructure development, health, and other rights based approaches throughout the country, Rafique Claimed. He said that all the initiatives carried out by SHARP focus on ensuring equal opportunities for the deprived segments of the society through improved access to justice.

On this occasion, different orators gave lectures on the human rights and other relating subjects. Muhammad Rafique, A field Manager gave a detailed introduction of SHARP. He also delivered presentation on International Human Rights in detail, after that an international Activist SHARP Manager Manzoor Ali gave a comprehensive and detailed presentation on The International Protection of human beings. Ms.Zeenat Mohib Kakakhel and Safia Naz made the participants aware of Foreigners’ Act and notifications regarding Rufegees time to time. They briefed the gathering about the laws and rights of refugees.

The participants of the workshop actively played their roles and keen interest in training workshop.

Chief Guest Mr. Mian Fahim Akbar Advocate, President of District Bar association, Swabi and Guest of honor Mr. Safdar Zeb Advocate, Secretary’s General of District Bar Association Swabi paid gratitude to SHARP-Pakistan team for conducting this training workshop for lawyers of Swabi. They also hoped to have similar capacity building initiatives in future.

At the end, Mr. Muhammad Rafique, field manager, Mr. Manzoor Ali, Manager SHARP thanked the honorable guests for their presence and facilitation. They also appreciated the keen interest of all the participants in training workshop.

Certificates were distributed among the participants and shields were awarded to the Chief Guest and Guest of Honor
