At the reception held by the American president for the world leaders attending the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday had a meeting with US President Joe Biden and his wife (UNGA).
In order to attend the 77th session of the UNGA, PM Shehbaz is now in New York. This is the first in-person UNGA session since 2019 when all sessions were held virtually owing to the epidemic. Around 12 p.m. (US local time) today, he will deliver a speech to the UN General Assembly. Pakistani time (9 p.m. local) viewers can watch the speech live on the UN website.
PM will speak at UNGA and share Pakistan’s “story of anguish and pain”
According to a statement from the Foreign Office’s press secretary, Asim Iftikhar, the prime minister would emphasise in his speech to the UNGA the difficulties Pakistan is currently facing in the wake of recent, devastating floods brought on by climate change.
PM Shehbaz will present specific recommendations for addressing the existential threat posed by climate change as a group. As one of the long-standing unsolved conflicts on the UN agenda, Jammu and Kashmir, he will also discuss Pakistan’s perspective and position on these regional and international concerns.
According to the FO spokeswoman, PM Shehbaz will take part in the high-level discussion at the UNGA from September 19 to September 23.
The foreign minister, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, as well as other cabinet members and senior officials, are with the prime minister. He has engaged in conversations with world leaders as well as other encounters with the media and various organisations.
