Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan, former prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, has emphasized his commitment to politics, stating that it is the work of politicians and they will remain active in the political arena.
In a conversation with journalists in Lahore, he expressed his concern over the lack of job opportunities despite the prevalence of education in Azad Kashmir. He added that his focus during his tenure was to generate employment in the tourism and IT sectors, which he believes has great potential in the region. He also expressed his intention to share information in the near future regarding tax payments by tobacco factories.
During his time as prime minister, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan set a precedent by not taking any concessions from the government treasury and bearing his own expenses. He stated that disqualification of a prime minister in Azad Jammu and Kashmir is not a traditional practice and that they worked towards decreasing the high unemployment rate in the region by focusing on tourism and IT.
He further expressed his concerns about the state of affairs in the country and plans to address the attacks on the judiciary in Pakistan. The former prime minister has initiated a bus service between Gilgit and Azad Kashmir and hopes to continue his efforts to improve the region
