Kumbh Mela: Millions gather amid surge in corona cases Farzana Ali Khan

176

Millions of hindus pilgrims who returned to their hometowns after Shnan (bathing in the River of Ganges) during Kumbh Mela also brought corona virus with them as a gift for their family and other fellow beings. The current situation of corona in India should be a lesson for us as the other day in India we saw the world’s highest daily rise in corona cases when three and a half million cases were reported in a single day and is still continued on daily basis. The dire situation due to corona in India has resulted in deaths of thousands of people every day, millions of cases are being reported, Shamshan Ghaat (Crematorium/ Cremation ground) the area where the last mass rites of the dead are performed is seen on fire all the time and the grounds are full of ashes spreading all around. According to an Indian friend due to oxygen scarcity in Delhi people are seeing their relatives suffocating and dying in front of their eyes. The Indian source also say that Curfew has been imposed all over Delhi for six days.At present total cases has risen to more than 17 million in one week in India; the country which at some time was considered the world’s second-largest country for producing Covid-19 vaccine. But what happened now? How did the country become inefficient unlike before? We all know that since April 1, the annual “Kumbh Mela” on the banks of the Ganga (River of Ganges) in Haridwar, India, was attended by millions of people from all over the country (or may be from foreign countries as well) and three weeks later more than two thousands cases were confirmed in the devotees who had returned to their hometowns.Besides, thousands of cases remained untraced and thus an increase of two to three lakh cases per day started emerging in India. Currently, Australia, New Zealand and England have also termed India as a red zone and imposed travel bans. Oman and Canada have put both Pakistan and India on the red list. Why am I writing all this? Just because our(the Pakistani’s) attitude is not much different from that of the people of India. If we look around we would see our streets, markets, bazaars and offices still crowded and some self-made scientists everywhere presenting their own such baseless theories about the subject of corona that even science and its arguments fail to convince these limited and narrow minded people. Lately, as compared to the Kumbh Mela in India we too have witnessed many sit-ins, useless processions, congregations, many political rallies taking place despite knowing the deadly situation due to corona.Apart from all this during this sacred month of Ramadan still some so called muslim people are busy in associating precautionary measures with weakness of faith and lack of belief in Islam. These are the people who were and will always remain unaware of the true teachings of Islam.Besides, as Eid-ul-Fitr is on the way, people are busy in shopping without any fear despite the day by day deteriorating situation all over the world.
On the other hand as the wedding season too will start soon after the Eid and the people will definetly show their irresponsible attitude by continuing their shopping. While on the other hand our hospitals lackoxygen cylinder and out of order ventilators same as in India so in this regard coping with the deadly disease people should better stay at home to cooperate the government and contribute the money to help the patients who are going through critical situation.Rather than spending money on ceremonies these people should come forth and get vaccines for those who are though safe from corona so far but their concern and helping hand can also secure their future.
And this would be the biggest example of love towards mankind. We should think seroiusly about the current situation as it seems that the way we are getting positive reports of our dear and near ones, the day is not far that we ourselves would fall victims to this deadly virus.Although, P M Imran Kan has also directed the Pakistan Army to take to the streets with the law enforcement agencies to implement SOPs in public and take strict action against the violators stillbit is seen that the people are not frightend and avoid taking precautions, so the pandemic supposedly is and will be spreading more rapidly in future.Prime Minister Imran Khan, in a news conference the other day has appealed to public to follow the SOPs which are not taken into consideration. As a precautionary measure the basic thing is wearing mask as it will save 50% of the people from falling prey to the virus.Seeing the current situation, there seems to be a danger of inposing full lockdown in the cities for which the National Command and Operations Center has been instructed to work out a plan with the provinces in the next few days to save the people from the troubles yet to come.In order to avoid the spread of different types of viruses in the world, a policy has been formulated to reduce the number of people coming from abroad.
Testing of people coming from abroad has also been directed to integrate the quarantine system so that there is no risk of an outbreak. Instructions have also been issued to further improve the supply of oxygen as soon as possible and to import it as and when required. According to the health department, at present the total oxygen production capacity of the country has reached to 90 per cent, of which 75 to 80 per cent oxygen is being used for health, of which a large number of patients suffering from corona virus are concerned.
The situation has risen above the first wave of the epidemic, during the first wave of the epidemic, the health system was under severe pressure and the number of critically ill patients being treated in the intensive care units rose to 3,500.As per sources currently, the number of critically ill patients in intensive care units across the country is more than 4,600, it mesns we have gone far beyond the previous wave. The rate of positive cases has been steadily rising to 10 percent or more, which suggests that there is a severe epidemic in our society and in some cities the positive rate has gone up to more than 20 percent.Besides, it was also observed that the city where the positive rate was low is now increasing and this is putting pressure on the health system and it is feared that it will not go above one level.I as an individual humbly appeal to the entire humanity that for God’s sake take the on goining condition across the world serious and follow the instructions set as Standard Operational Procedures because this third wave is not just dangerous but absolutely fatal. Before its too late, instead of seeing the fire burning outside, beware and take safety measures to save your own house from catching the fire.In order to keep yourself and your family safe kindly dont forget putting on a mask on a regular basis rather make it a part of your daily life getup as we can not deny the fact that for government, the National Command Operation Center and the statistics agency, you will be just a number or digit added to the list of the victims(dead or under treatment) but for your family you will be an irreparable loss. Moreover, keep in mind the policies of your provincial and federal government, cooperate with them.God forbid but it seems as if the situation in Pakistan is also getting out of control. In the end i would ask those muslims who are making fun of the current state of India, should have fear of God and seek refuge in Allah from this natural disaster because it has been witnessed that this pandemic has better started from China but later it spread across the world without discriminating religion, caste, creed and nationatily reached to the entire humanity.
I am requesting the readers to pray as much as you can during this holy month that May Allah protect the entire world from thispandemic and give us strength to fight back this disease, Ameen!
