LAHORE: Pacer Fatima Sana expressed confidence that Pakistan’s women’s squad would compete well against Ireland at home.
This November, Ireland’s women’s cricket team will travel to Pakistan to play a double cricket series against Pakistan. The Pakistani team members are eager for Ireland’s debut tour. From November 4 to November 16 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Pakistan will face the visitors in three one-day internationals and as many Twenty20 internationals.
Positively expressing his excitement, the 20-year-old pacer said it was wonderful to see Ireland visit Pakistan for the first time. The assured bowler stated that Pakistan will want to maintain its winning streak against Ireland in the upcoming series.
After missing the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup due to an ankle ailment, Fatima Sana recovered her fitness.
She remarked that the team’s progress in the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup was encouraging. Speaking to PCB Digital on the sidelines of the camp, Fatima said, “The manner we overcame India helped me gain confidence when I joined the squad for the pre-series camp against Ireland.
Fatima got 36 wickets in 25 ODIs and 12 wickets in 15 T20Is after making her bowling debut in 2019. She also won the titles of ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year in 2021 as well as PCB Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year in 2020.
The cricketer urged supporters to show up at the stadium to witness the games in support of the national team, noting that the matches against Sri Lanka also drew sizable throngs of fans. For the series against Ireland, she hoped to see a similar turnout.
In response to a question, Fatima stated that she and Diana Baig, who will be sidelined for the Ireland series due to injury, had a strong bowling tandem. She said that although the squad will lose Baig, they still have other talented bowlers who can compete with the opposition.
Fatima Sana asked the Under-19 cricketers and other up-and-coming athletes to attend in order to support their team and see how international athletes play.
Currently taking place at the National High-Performance Centre in Lahore is a five-day pre-series camp. The ODI and T20I teams are hard at work in camp.
