LAHORE: After learning that a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team was prepared to arrest him in a case involving “properties beyond means,” the former chief minister of Punjab, Sardar Usman Buzdar, was able to secure a pre-arrest release on Monday.
Buzdar is also accused of abusing his position of power.
By giving Buzdar anticipatory bail, an accountability court prevented the NAB from detaining him; nevertheless, the court also mandated that the PTI leader participate in the inquiry.
Buzdar had already submitted a bail request through his attorney, claiming to be a victim of a political witch hunt.
Buzdar’s attorney was concerned that because NAB’s case was politically motivated, his client would be arrested.
The court ordered Buzdar to post Rs 500,000 in surety bonds as bail and requested a response from NAB.
On November 4, the Lahore High Court (LHC) commanded the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to refrain from pursuing coercive measures against Buzdar and former federal minister Moonis Elahi in connection with the investigations into them.
