The M6 Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway’s foundation stone-laying ceremony took place on Tuesday and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif vowed to not cut corners on the project’s quality.
PM Shehbaz threatened that he will pay a surprise visit to the construction site to assess the progress and calibre of the work while speaking at the ceremony to lay the foundation stone.
Consider it either a positive or bad habit that I make ad hoc trips for projects. will require Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister of Sindh, to supervise the quality,” PM Shehbaz said to the crowd.
The project should be finished in 30 months, the premier added, adding that the motorway will help both carriers and passengers once it is finished. He stated that a public-private partnership deal is being used to complete the project.
The prime minister also emphasised that Pakistan cannot advance without Balochistan, and he added that Gwadar port must be made operational.
He claimed that the previous administration excessively delayed this project.
The coalition administration is dedicated to delivering wealth and development to all of the nation’s underdeveloped regions, especially Balochistan and Sindh.
The prime minister reaffirmed his commitment to using all resources available to complete the rehabilitation effort for flood victims.
Prior to the prime minister’s speech, the chief minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, expressed regret that the previous leader, Nawaz Sharif, had promised that the federal government would construct the Sukkur-Rohri bridge and requested him for money for the undertaking.
PM Shehbaz then informed the CM that his brother had previously declared the project and was now proclaiming its completion.
PTI asserts project ownership
Prior to the prime minister’s speech, Asad Umar, a former planning minister, congratulated Sindh’s residents on the commencement of construction on the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway but bemoaned the project’s eight-month delay.
During the administration of former prime minister Imran Khan in 2021, according to Umar, the project received approval from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC). He added that the Public-Private Partnership Board has given the project its blessing on March 31, 2022.
“The contractor was also chosen before this. The imported administration is finally getting to work after wasting eight months, tweeted Umar.
signed construction contract
The National Highway Authority (NHA) and the contractor signed the concession agreement for the building of the Sukkur-Hyderabad highway project in December 2021.
In accordance with the Public Private Partnership Board’s authorised transaction structure, the federal government will invest only Rs9.5 billion during the building phase, with the private party covering the remaining Rs297.5 billion in project costs through equity and commercial debt.
The private party would also pay anticipated corporate taxes of Rs908 billion throughout the concession period and a minimum of Rs408 billion to NHA. At the conclusion of the concession period, the project will also be given free of charge to the NHA.
The M6 Motorway is a popular name for the largest PPP project ever signed in the history of the nation.
The federal Public Private Partnership Authority (P3A) collaborated with the NHA to structure the project using the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) approach.
The project will finish the gap in the Peshawar-Karachi motorway network, which runs north to south. The project is anticipated to have positive economic effects by reducing travel time and expenses significantly and raising the socioeconomic standing of the area.
