Prof. Dr. Anila Kamal; Vice Chancellor RWU, expert in gender psychology, shed light on the experiences of international students particularly focusing on cultural shock. She emphasized that the cultural shock arising from changes in environment, language, climate, and cultural norms etc can lead to curiosity and initial anxiety. However, she highlighted the students’ ability to adapt and adjust to the new culture with time.
Dr. Anila expressed these views while moderating the Panel Discussion “Life of International Students in Pakistan” in the opening session of first International Students Convention organized under the auspices of the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC). The guest of honor for the opening session was Governor Punjab, Mian Balighur Rehman. The panelist were international students from Yemen, Sri Lanka, UAE, China,Iran, Kashmir and Afghanistan.
Dr. Anila appreciated the innovative idea of Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir, Chairman PHEC for providing an exceptional platform for cultural exchange, fostering understanding, and promoting global fellowship. RWU is always ready to play a pivotal role to facilitate international students in terms of mentorship programs, cultural integration activities, and counseling services to facilitate their smooth transition into the new environment, she added.
Ambassadors of Iran, Palestine and more than 1,000 students were in attendance.
