Muzaffarabad: Preparations have begun across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to observe October 27 as Black Day, marking the illegal entry of the Indian occupational forces into Jammu and Kashmir in 1947. The day, observed annually, symbolizes the Kashmiris’ rejection of India’s forcible occupation of their homeland and their unwavering struggle for the right to self-determination.

According to All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) AJK Chapter Secretary Information, Mushtaq Ahmed Butt, extensive arrangements are being made throughout the region in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Cell under the AJK government. The commemoration will be held with solemnity and resolve to reaffirm solidarity with the oppressed people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Mushtaq Butt said that a series of rallies, seminars, protests, and awareness programs will be organized across all district headquarters including Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Rawalakot, Bagh, and Kotli. These events will draw attention to India’s continued military occupation and gross human rights violations in the occupied valley.

He added that the main rally in Muzaffarabad will be jointly organized by the APHC AJK Chapter, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Cell, and civil society organizations, where political leaders, scholars, students, and representatives of various social groups will participate. The participants will carry black flags and banners condemning India’s occupation and reaffirming their commitment to the freedom struggle.

In addition, photo exhibitions, documentary screenings, and special prayers will be held to honor the martyrs of Kashmir and to highlight the decades-long resilience of the Kashmiri people against Indian repression. The events will also spotlight the international community’s moral responsibility to help resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

Officials of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Cell stated that the AJK government has extended full support to the APHC in organizing the observance of Black Day across all districts. Awareness campaigns on social and electronic media are also being launched to educate younger generations about the significance of October 27 and its place in the Kashmiri struggle for freedom.

The APHC leadership reiterated that October 27, 1947, remains the darkest day in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, when India, in violation of international law and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, landed its troops in the Valley. Since then, the region has witnessed relentless oppression, arbitrary detentions, and the denial of basic human rights.

Mushtaq Ahmed Butt urged the people of Azad Kashmir, Pakistan, and the Kashmiri diaspora worldwide to actively participate in the Black Day activities and express their unity with their brethren in IIOJK. He reaffirmed that the struggle for the right to self-determination will continue until the Kashmiri people achieve complete freedom from Indian occupation.

The day will conclude with candlelight vigils and special prayer gatherings across AJK, renewing the pledge that the sacrifices of the Kashmiri people will not go in vain.
