Bangladesh High Commissioner Visits AJK, Expresses Support for Kashmiris’ Right to Self-Determination

RAWALAKOT — Bangladesh High Commissioner M.D. Iqbal Hussain Khan and Consular Press M.D. Tayab Ali arrived in Azad Jammu & Kashmir on an official visit, where they were warmly received in Rawalakot by Commissioner Poonch Division Chaudhry Mukhtar Hussain. Upon their arrival at Circuit House, the Commissioner welcomed the delegation. Deputy Commissioner Poonch Sardar Umar Farooq, SSP Poonch Khawar Ali Shaukat, Deputy Director Information Poonch Saadullah, Assistant Commissioner Rawalakot, and Yasir Aftab were also present on the occasion.

Speaking to the media, the Bangladesh High Commissioner said that the people of Azad Kashmir and Indian-occupied Kashmir expect that the government and people of Bangladesh will continue to support their struggle for the right to self-determination in accordance with United Nations resolutions. He emphasized that Bangladesh stands committed to supporting oppressed Kashmiris at the international level.

The High Commissioner described Azad Kashmir as an exceptionally beautiful region, saying it is no less than “a Switzerland” for Bangladeshis. He added that the landscape, forests, rivers, and natural resources of the area are blessings from God, and by benefiting from these resources, the region could achieve remarkable development. He said efforts would be made to encourage Bangladeshi tourists to visit AJK and experience its natural beauty.

He further noted that Bangladesh and Pakistan, as brotherly Islamic countries, are strengthening ties under a shared history. He said both countries are working rapidly to make air travel easier and enhance bilateral cooperation. The High Commissioner reaffirmed that the government of Bangladesh would continue to raise its voice for the freedom and rights of the Kashmiri people.

He said the people of Bangladesh stand wholeheartedly with the people of Pakistan and Kashmir.

At the end of the visit, Commissioner Poonch Division Chaudhry Mukhtar Hussain, Deputy Commissioner Poonch, and SSP Poonch presented traditional gifts to the Bangladesh High Commissioner, Consular Press Tayab Ali, and their family. The High Commissioner thanked the Commissioner and local administration for their hospitality.
