Islamabad ramps up security, declares parks family-only for eid

ISLAMABAD: A meeting was held on Thursday at CDA Headquarters regarding the law and order situation and security arrangements on the occasion of Chand Raat and Eid-ul-Fitr in the Federal Capital, Islamabad, under the chairmanship of Chief Commissioner Islamabad and Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The meeting was attended by Inspector General (IG) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon as well as senior officers from the district administration and Islamabad Police. The meeting reviewed measures to ensure foolproof security on the occasion of Chand Raat and Eid-ul-Fitr in the Federal Capital, Islamabad.

During the briefing on security and law and order arrangements in the Federal Capital, Islamabad, the meeting was informed that Shakarparian National Park, Lake View Park, and Daman-e-Koh Park have been declared family parks from March 20 to 23 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, while F-9 Park will remain open to the public on Eid-ul-Fitr.

Briefing the meeting, it was said that security has been further tightened at entry and exit points of the City, including checkposts and sensitive locations established in the City. Similarly, a comprehensive security plan has been devised regarding Eid gatherings at Eidgahs, markazi mosques and Imambargahs. The meeting was further informed that a special traffic plan has been devised, particularly for Faisal Mosque for the Eid-ul-Fitr gatherings.

Chief Commissioner Islamabad and Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Muhammad Ali Randhawa directed that effective coordination with the Rawalpindi administration be ensured to control traffic from Murree on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. He said that all Assistant Commissioners and Magistrates in their respective sub-divisions, should perform their duties as one unit in collaboration with Islamabad Police and CDA.

The meeting directed special traffic and security arrangements around all marakiz, commercial centers, and shopping malls on the occasion of Chand Raat.

Inspector General (IG) Islamabad Police, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi said that ensuring security is the top priority in this regard, complete coordination between security and traffic police will be ensured. He said that not only will police patrolling be increased in parks and public places, but the number of deployed personnel will also be increased.

Inspector General (IG) Islamabad Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, said that a flag march should also be conducted to maintain the law and order situation on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. He said that the central control room at Islamabad Safe City will be activated on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. He further added that special camps will be arranged for security, traffic and other services in major centers of the Federal Capital, Islamabad.

Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, directed that sanitation and rescue staff perform their duties at commercial marakiz and other public places on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, alongside security. He directed that special security arrangements, along with cleanliness and sanitation be made in the graveyards of the Federal Capital, Islamabad.

Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, said that strict legal action will be taken against transporters who charge extra fares from passengers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. He directed the inspection of public swings installed in public parks and obtaining fitness certificates for the swings from operators. He said that the traffic plan should be shared with the public on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr so that they can plan their journeys in advance.

The meeting decided that strict operations would be conducted against illegal activities such as one-wheeling and drifting. Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, further saud that all relevant institutions should work together as one team so that citizens do not face any kind of inconvenience on the occasion of Eid and can celebrate Eid peacefully.
