AJK cabinet approves 14th amendment to deal with Judicial Crisis

MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) cabinet approved 14th amendment in Act 1974 to deal with the judicial crisis in the state. The decision was taken during a session of AJK Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider Khan.
According to detail, AJK Cabinet approved amendment in the articles dealing with the appointment of judges in AJK Supreme Court and High Court. Both the articles 42 and 43 have been amended. According to the approved amendment the President of the state has been given the authority to appoint the Chief Justice and Judges of Supreme Court and High Court upon the directions of the Chairman Kashmir Council. Prior to this, under 13th amendment Kashmir Council was mentioned instead of Chairman Kashmir Council. The amendment has been approved by the cabinet and would be tabled in Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly (AJK LA) today.
