AJK govt approves optical fiber project to boost digital connectivity

Islamabad: Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, has announced the approval of a major optical fiber installation project across the state. In a special video message, he said the project will place AJK on a new path of digital development.

The multi-billion-rupee initiative, with work set to begin immediately after Eid, aims to provide high-speed and reliable internet services. It will support advancements in education, healthcare, e-governance, and business sectors, while creating new employment opportunities in the IT field, particularly for youth.

The Prime Minister said this is the first time such a comprehensive fiber-optic project has been approved in AJK, crediting the public-oriented government of the Pakistan Peoples Party for the initiative. He congratulated Chief Secretary Khushal Khan, Secretary Information and IT Muhammad Rashid Hanif, and their team for making the project possible.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to using modern technology to improve public services, adding that the project would contribute significantly to AJK’s development, prosperity, and a brighter future.
