Sheikh Rashid arrest: IHC seeks reply from Islamabad police in contempt plea

Following the arrest of Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday issued notice to the police in contempt of court plea and sought reply regarding their action.

Additionally, the notices had been sent to the advocate general and attorney general.

By Monday, the court needs responses.

According to the plea, despite the court’s suspension of police notice to summon AML chief Sheikh Rasheed, a case was filed against him and he was taken into custody.

Because the police had broken the court’s orders, he urged the court to begin contempt proceedings against the SHO of the Aabpara police station.

Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri of the IHC heard the contempt of court plea and asked Sheikh Rashid’s lawyer which order had been broken.

He stated that the court had not prevented the registration of a case; rather, it had only suspended the police notice.

Rashid’s attorney responded that the ruling meant that the institutions would show restraint if they didn’t take any action until the case was in court.

Justice Tariq said, “I wish there was such respect.”

A suspect is framed in another case if he receives bail in one case, the court said.
