Sheikh Rashid files post-arrest bail application again

A day after bail rejection, Awami Muslim League (AML) Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed on Wednesday filed a post-arrest bail application in an Islamabad court, alleging that he has been targeted for political vendetta.

Rashid was arrested on charges that he planned to kill Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan by blaming former president and PPP co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

A district and sessions court in Islamabad denied his bail request in the same case on Tuesday.

The leader of the AML claimed in the petition that the prosecution had fabricated false charges against him with the assistance of the police.

He added that despite the high court’s order suspending the police summons, a case had been filed.

The petitioner argued that a complaint filed by a common citizen cannot incorporate the FIR’s provisions.

According to the petition, Sheikh Rashid was only the target of political retaliation, and the police abused their authority against him.

It has been argued that the AML leader is currently in the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi and that the court must approve the bail application because there is no need for additional investigation.
