Muzaffarabad: Azad Kashmir medical college celebrates World No Tobacco Day on 31 May here in Muzaffarabad. The theme for this year’s world no tobacco day is “Grow food, not tobacco”.
The seminar was organized in Azad Kashmir medical college in which professors, students and other staff participated.
The seminar was aimed to raise awareness among the public about the adverse health effects of tobacco, the burden on public health budgets, and the spread of tobacco-related diseases.
This year’s theme of World No Tobacco Day is “We Need Food, Not Tobacco” as increasing cultivation of tobacco has caused scarcity of land that we direly need to meet our growing demand for food.
In Pakistan, tobacco-related causes claim the lives of nearly 160,000 individuals annually, and approximately 1,200 to 1,500 children start tobacco use before the age of 18. It is of utmost importance to protect future generations from the harmful effects of tobacco.
