Chairman NAB resigns , refuses to accept pressure to go wrong

PM accepts Sultan’s resignation , Praises the upright officer.

Islamabad  (21, February 2023 ) Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Aftab Sultan has resigned from his post by not accepting pressure for the “wrong deeds”.

After his resignation while talking to the ceremony held in his honor at NAB Headquarters , he said that neither he can accept pressure from outside to initiate a false case against somebody nor give clean chit to any culprit, on the basis that he might be a relative of some important personality .

“I am quite content and happy that I maintained my principles throughout my career and never bowed in front of any pressure . I tried my best to work according to law in my entire service. I cannot continue my jobs on certain conditions”, the outgoing head of the anti-grafting body added.

Aftab said that he never compromised on the principles. The constitution of the country gives complete guidelines to resolve national problems and the homeland is lingering in the difficulties due to non-implementation of the law.

He said that he has full confidence in the officials and officers of NAB that they would keep the rule of law and high moral values alive.

According to media reports he had pressure from the government as well as some powerful corners  to  go  according to their will, but Aftab Sultan bluntly refused to accept any pressure and decided to quit the job instead of moving against the law.

The Prime Minister’s Secretariat also confirmed the resignation tendered by the former Chairman NAB on personal reasons . The Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has also accepted his resignation.

However in the statement issued from the PM’s office , the Prime Minister has praised his honesty and wished him good luck in future.

Aftab Sultan assumed the charge of Chairman NAB in July 2022, after the completion of tenure by his predecessor Justice(R) Javed Iqbal.

He belonged to Pakistan Police Services(PSP) and got his retirement in BPS-22 . He remained in important positions including Deputy Inspector General of Police.
