Education emergency

0 3

The Prime Minister has announced to impose an education emergency in the country but like the past it would only be a lip service as without increasing the budget on education sector the statement of the is only hoodwinking the people.

According to official data some 20.6 million children are out of school, but the independent sources do not agree with this, as the number of children not going to schools in the entire country is much more than the figures issued by the government.

If the Prime Minister really wants to bring revolution in the country through education, then only making an announcement to impose an education emergency is not enough. For this purpose, first of all the government should abolish various education standards that prevails in the country including school running in public sector, the educational institutions operated by the private sector, the foreign education system being controlled by some Western countries and last but not the least the education system which is taken by the Islamic seminaries and Madrasas.

The teachers in government schools should be recruited through the public service commission after passing the broad base examinations. The government would have to remove all the bottlenecks present in the education sector by overhauling the whole system.

The government must introduce uniform syllabus and the same fee structure in the entire country whether the schools are running in the private or public sector to abolish the difference in the several education systems. The poor man cannot afford the education of his children in private schools, whereas the government schools do not provide quality education. So the children of the rich people get the best kind of education and due to it they clear all the competitive exams for the superior services and get more chances to excel as compared to the common man’s child.

There are thousands of schools in the public sector especially in the rural areas throughout Pakistan where the education is not being imparted to the children and the “ghost” teachers deployed there are receiving pay and allowances on regular basis while sitting idols at homes. On one side the teachers get their monthly salary and on the other hand the corrupt high officials of the education department embezzle the funds allocated for the maintenance of these schools, so they don’t take action against these teachers. If any honest officer wants to streamline the system by starting the education process in these Ghost schools, the teachers utilize their links with the local political leaders including MNAs or MPAs , who either  exert pressure on the up[right officers or get  them transferred to far flung places.

The mafia in the government sector education sector is so strong that no one even thinks to take action against them. If some of the teacher is sacked for not performing duties in a satisfactory manner, then the so called union leaders of the teachers start protest on roads to get restored their fellow no matter that he was removed from service on proofing corruption charges against him. In this way they support corrupt practices of each other.
