EU agrees to cut gas consumption over Russian supply concerns

European leaders have agreed to cut gas consumption for countries in the event of a cut in gas supplies from Russia.

EU members held talks on Tuesday as the bloc urged countries to cut gas consumption by 15 percent from August to March.

“It was not Mission Impossible!”, tweeted the Czech Republic, which holds the rotating presidency of the European Union.

Draft plans seen by the BBC suggested that the contract was terminated with voluntary reductions in gas consumption.
