ISLAMABAD: On Friday, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has suspended two officers for a period of four months for their alleged participation in disclosing the tax information of General (ret.) Qamar Javed Bajwa’s family.

Due to their alleged involvement in disclosing Gen. Bajwa and his family’s tax records, the FBR said on Thursday that its two officers, Zahoor Ahmed and Atif Nawaz Warraich, would be suspended from their positions.

The notification stated that the competent authority, Secretary of Revenue/Chairman of FBR, had suspended the two officers of BS-18 of the Inland Revenue Service for a period of 120 days with immediate effect in the exercise of the authority granted under sub-rule (1) of the Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 2020.

Zahoor Ahmad (Admin Pool), FBR (Headquarters), Islamabad, and Atif Nawaz Warraich (Admin Pool), FBR (Headquarters), Islamabad, are the two suspended officers.

On November 21, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar tasked Tariq Pasha as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Revenues to look into the theft of the former army chief’s family’s tax returns.

He took note of the “illegal and unwarranted” disclosure of Gen. (ret.) Bajwa’s family members’ tax information.

According to a statement from the Finance Division, “This is obviously a violation of the entire confidentiality of tax information that the law provides.”
