Bracing for a potential economic recession, Google’s Ceo Sundar Pichai informed the employees that the company will be slowing down its pace of hiring for the rest of 2022, and the coming year as well.

In the memo, obtained by The Verge, the CEO says that as a company, they “need to be more entrepreneurial, working with greater urgency, sharper focus, and more hunger than we’ve shown on sunnier days.”

According to Sundar Pichai, Google is not immune to the current uncertainty in the global economy and hence they need to “deepen focus and invest for the long term”.

Regarding the hiring process, Pichai says, “Because of the hiring progress achieved so far this year, we’ll be slowing the pace of hiring for the rest of the year, while still supporting our most important opportunities. For the balance of 2022 and 2023, we’ll focus our hiring on engineering, technical and other critical roles, and make sure the great talent we do hire is aligned with our long-term priorities.”

Google is one of the many companies around the globe that have slowed down their hiring process amidst the economic turmoil.

Previously, Meta, Uber, GameStop, Netflix, Spotify and others either slowed down or completely stopped the new recruitment process.
