Governor distributes cheques amongst disabled students at KMU

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali has said that disabled children are an important part of our society and will not leave them alone under any circumstances. He also urged the youth to discourage violent behavior in the country and make decency, values and traditions, respect, and ethics a part of their lives. He expressed these views while speaking as a chief guest at the scholarships cheques distributing ceremony amongst disabled students. On this occasion, Health Advisor to the Caretaker Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Riaz Anwar, former provincial minister Amanullah Haqqani, a former member of the provincial assembly Atif ur Rehman, vice chancellor KMU Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq, faculty members, and students were also present.

Addressing the students, the governor said that this country belongs to all of us and we all have to play our role for the country’s development, integrity, and security with unity. The events of May 9 have hurt every patriotic Pakistani. Youth must work together with the national and defense institutions to protect public and state property and thwart the ambitions of anti-national elements.

The Governor paid tribute to the KMU vice-chancellor, faculty members, and university administration for the complete fee waiver for disabled students and said that it is a commendable initiative of KMU to focus on disabled students. He said that as the chancellor, he has given clear instructions to all universities to give priority to disabled children in admissions and to waive their fees. He also emphasized that disabled students should be given special emphasis in jobs. He said that every child has the right to health facilities and other basic needs, including modern and quality education, and like other children, disabled children are being provided with full opportunities to come forward in other fields of education, including medicine. He said that Khyber Medical University is an important educational institution that has its own history of educational achievements and I am trying to improve the reputation of this university.

On this occasion, the governor distributed fee wave-off certificates to 80 disabled students of medical and allied health sciences affiliated with the university and scholarship cheques to 19 female students who received scholarships from USAID. He presented them with cheques and fee waiver certificates at their seats. Earlier, immediately after reaching the university, the governor planted a sapling on the lawn and inaugurated the newly constructed administration block of the university.

Besides, the governor was briefed about fund issues by VC Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq in the committee room of Khyber Medical University on the proposed project of Stroke and Rehabilitation Center on 120 kanal area in Swat, the hospital built with the financial support of the federal government in KMU, the treatment of thalassemia disease and the public health reference laboratory. The Governor assured to solve the problems by calling a meeting of the relevant departments next week for the delivery of the funds and inclusion of these projects in the next ADP. On this occasion, in the presence of the Governor, a memorandum of understanding was also signed between KMU and PEDO regarding the welfare of disabled persons
