MUZAFFARABAD: A writ petition was filed in Azad Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Friday in which it was demanded that the minimum qualification for members of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly (AJKLA) should be graduation instead of matriculation.
According to detail the petition was filed by Naqash Ali Advocate, followed by young lawyer Mir Ghazanfar Gull, and was heard by the senior Judge, Justice Sheraz Ahmed Kayani. The matter has been referred to the Acting Chief Justice for devising the larger bench. According to sub clause XXV of the clause 5(2) of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Elections Ordinance, the minimum qualification for a member of AJK LA is matriculation. The filed petition demanded that the minimum qualification to become a member of AJKLA should be graduation instead of matriculation.
There is minimum qualification of graduation for even a job of clerk, but those who are to run the state have minimum qualification matriculation. Naqash Ali Advocated raised the issue of the minimum qualification criteria for members of AJK LA. People belong to various walks of life hailed the step taken by Naqash Ali Advocate.
