IMDC collaborates with PAMI to push for AI integration into medicine, dentistry
IMDC hosts roundtable meeting preceding international medical conference to be organized by PAMI
Islamabad: Islamabad Medical & Dental College (IMDC) collaborated with the Pakistan Institute of Medical and Dental Institutions (PAMI) to host a pre-conference roundtable meeting on International Medical Conference (IMC), 2024 theme – “AI Horizons in Medicine and Dentistry: Navigating the Future”. The roundtable meeting was based on exploring the groundbreaking and revolutionary potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare education.
The purpose of this roundtable conference was to provide a dynamic platform to educators, administrators, and other stakeholders in the medical field where they discussed AI-enhanced educational content and tools in the field of medicine and dentistry. The roundtable meeting’s agenda was aligned with the UNESCO guidance for generative AI in education and research.
More than seventy medical professionals and professors from renowned institutions including Shifa International Hospital, Watim Medical College, Riphah Medical College, HBS Medical & Dental College, and Wah Medical College participated in the meeting. Chairman IMDC/ANTH Dr. Ghulam Akbar Khan Niazi was the Chief Guest. CEO IMDC/ANTH and President of the PAMI’s Federal Chapter Yasir Khan Niazi along with the other members of senior management of IMDC welcomed the guests to the event.
During the roundtable meeting, the participants delved into various sub-themes around the impact of AI on medical education and research. They explored AI-based personalized learning experiences, enhanced diagnostics, assessment tools, and curriculum development.
Prof. Lubna Baig, Director Medical Education Program – University of Lahore; and Dr. Syed Hasan Shoaib, Director Program Evaluation and Quality Assurance – University of Lahore, were notable speakers in the roundtable meeting. Both speakers presented extensively on AI’s transformative journey in medicine.
Yasir Khan Niazi addressed the meeting while stating, “We have always stood at the forefront of embracing technological advancements in medical education. IMDC’s teaching hospital, Dr. Akbar Niazi Teaching Hospital, has already spearheaded incorporation of AI technology in its diagnostic laboratory and both IMDC and ANTH are carrying out research projects on AI in a bid to improve patient care and medical & dental education.”
Head of IMDC/ANTH Communications Imran Ali Ghouri while expressing his views said, “It is evident that we are on the brink of a new era in healthcare. This event is a great step in fostering a collaborative environment where practitioners and researchers can deliberate on the potential of AI in medicine and dentistry.”
The roundtable meeting was concluded after engaging and valuable discussions which will help in contributing to the upcoming conference in a meaningful way. At the end of the conference, Yasir Khan Niazi presented shields to Prof. Lubna A. Baig and Dr. Syed Hasan Shoaib while appreciating their valuable inputs in the meeting.
