Imran Khan writes to President Alvi, demands inquiry against ex-army chief Bajwa
Escalating the proxy battle, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan has written a letter to the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces; demanding an immediate inquiry against the former chief of army staff General (retd) Qamar Bajwa.
A column that senior journalist Javed Chaudhry wrote earlier this month served as the impetus for the letter.
Gen. (ret.) Bajwa stated in the interview with the senior journalist that his “crime” was not supporting Imran’s government and intervening. He also said that the PTI was a bad thing for the country.
Imran Khan makes the claim in a letter that he sent to President Arif Alvi on February 14 that Bajwa has repeatedly broken his oath of office. He asks that the following allegations be investigated:
Imran Khan claims that Bajwa’s decision that Imran Khan would be dangerous to the country if he remained in power was a clear breach of his oath.
Bajwa was able to get Shaukat Tarin’s National Accountability Bureau case dismissed, indicating that NAB was under his control.
A Pakistani journalist was told by Bajwa that he had tapes of his conversations with then-PM Imran Khan, which Imran Khan claims is a serious breach of his oath and a violation of fundamental human rights.
Bajwa defied the then-government’s policy of remaining neutral in the Russia-Ukraine conflict in public.
As the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, President Arif Alvi has been urged by Imran Khan to act immediately and launch an investigation to determine whether such serious violations of the Constitution and oath of office have occurred.
