ISLAMABAD: Two years after its inception, PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s dream university, Al-Qadir Institute, has only enrolled 100 students.
The Punjab government has yet to recognise the former prime minister’s varsity, which was established in 2021 in Sohawa, Jhelum. Al-Qadir admitted 41 students in its first year, but only 60 students were enrolled in its second year.
Despite being registered as a trust, the institute charges its students fees. According to their agreement, a large businessman is responsible for all of Al-Qadir Trust’s expenses.

Dr. Arif Nazir Butt, one of Al-Qadir Institute’s trustees, stated that the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) has yet to grant Al-Qadir Institute degree-awarding status, and the institute remains affiliated with the Government College University, offering only two programmes, Management Sciences and Islamic Studies.
“The process is nearing completion, and we will soon be granted degree-awarding status,” said Dr. Arif.
Dr. Amjadur Rehman, the institute’s director, admitted that the institute had only enrolled 100 students so far.

“We enrolled 40 students in the first batch, and 60 more in the second batch; 20 in Islamic Studies and 40 in Management Sciences,” he said.
When asked if they charge fees to students, Dr. Amjad stated that only 10% of all students are charged fees.
Dr. Amjad went on to say, “Fee is charged so that students remain motivated to study and the institution itself becomes self-sufficient.” The Al-Qadir Institute wishes to be free of donations.”
Initially, the top businessman donated 458 kanals of land to Al-Qadir Institute, which, according to the stamp paper, was valued at Rs244 million in 2019.

The land was first given to Zulfi Bukhari, who later gave it to the trust after it was established in January 2021. The property is in Mouza Bakrala, Tehsil Sohawa, district Jhelum.
Bushra Khan (on behalf of Al-Qadir University) and the donor signed the acknowledgment agreement for the donated land while Imran Khan (chairman of Al Qadir University) was in the Prime Minister’s Office.
The trust received Rs180 million in donations from January 2021 to December 2021. From July 2020 to June 2021, the trust’s total income was Rs101 million, while its total expenditure, including salaries for staff and workers, was only around Rs8.58 million.

More importantly, the ex-premier established the Al-Qadir University Project Trust on December 26, 2019, just a few weeks after his cabinet decision regarding a housing society, which later became the university’s donor.

Three weeks before the trust’s registration on December 2, 2019, the Imran Khan cabinet took up the issue of account freezing orders (AFOs) and the National Crime Agency’s repatriation of funds to Pakistan (NCA).

The NCA England closed an investigation into the CEO of the housing society, and approximately £140 million was returned to Pakistan from the top businessman’s overseas account.

Later, nearly £140 million was repatriated to Pakistan, but the funds were deposited in the SC’s account at the National Bank of Pakistan. It raised concerns about whether money was to be transferred to government accounts or deposited in SC accounts, given that the businessman agreed to pay Rs460 billion to the SCP.

The housing society purchased land in Jhelum around 460-Kanal and transferred it in the name of Zulfi Bukhari the month after the trust deed was registered in the Islamabad sub-office. registrar’s

On March 24, 2021, the housing society’s donation of land, along with other donations such as infrastructure and other provisions, were acknowledged through an agreement signed between Bushra Bibi and the housing society at Imran Khan’s residence while he was prime minister.
