Independent Urdu, UAJK Join Hands to Offer Paid Media Internships

Muzaffarabad: Independent Urdu and the Department of Media and Communication Studies at the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) have entered into a formal agreement to launch six-week paid internships for media students, marking a significant step toward bridging academic learning with practical journalism experience.

In connection with the partnership, a day-long workshop on “Media Ethics” was held at UAJK on Tuesday, sponsored by Independent Urdu. The session was attended by Independent Urdu’s Senior Manager Haroon-ul-Rashid, Project Consultant Dr. Palwasha Khan Marwat, and Video Journalist Fahad Mazhar.

Addressing the students, Haroon-ul-Rashid emphasized the importance of ethical and responsible journalism, urging young journalists to prioritize truth and fact-checking in their reporting to counter misinformation.

Dr. Palwasha Marwat briefed participants on the structure of the internship program, explaining that students would gain hands-on newsroom experience through weekly rotations across various departments.

Department Coordinator Dr. Shahida Khaliq expressed gratitude to Independent Urdu for initiating the program, describing it as a milestone that connects academic knowledge with professional fieldwork.

At the conclusion of the workshop, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Dr. Nadeem Haider Bukhari presented souvenirs to the Independent Urdu team in recognition of their collaboration. Earlier in the day, Haroon-ul-Rashid also called on UAJK Vice Chancellor Dr. Nasir Jamal Khattak to discuss prospects for future cooperation between the two institutions.
