Ishaq Dar, the leader of the PML-N, who arrived in Pakistan alongside Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday night, will take his oath as a senator today (Tuesday) at 4pm, according to individuals with knowledge of the situation.
Dar, who has spent the last five years in self-exile in the UK, will take the oath of office as the federal finance minister tomorrow (September 28) at 10am.
Dar will be sworn in at Aiwan-e-Sadar by President Arif Alvi. By tomorrow morning, everything will be set up for the oath-taking ceremony.
By God’s grace, I have come home to my nation. I’ll do all in my power to save Pakistan from the [economic] hurricane that is engulfing it, Dar declared.
He revealed that Nawaz Sharif, the president of the PML-N, and the prime minister had given him control of the finance ministry.
The new finance minister claimed that both in 1998 and 2013, “[we] rescued Pakistan out of an economic cyclone.”
Dar has returned and taken over the crucial responsibilities of the finance ministry in an effort to “assist” the government’s initiatives to revive the cash-strapped economy.
In accordance with the party’s decision prior to Dar’s arrival, Miftah Ismail resigned as the finance minister.
Nawaz Sharif, PM Shehbaz, and other PML-N leaders met in London at this time to make the choice. Several country-related topics were covered in detail throughout the session.
A PML-N spokesperson said that during the meeting, Miftah delivered Nawaz his letter of resignation and thanked him for giving him the opportunity to manage the ministry.
Miftah added that during the previous four months, he gave it his all while remaining devoted to his party and the nation.
He will however keep working for the government.
